the pace of economic globalisation

interesting poll here: http://rodrik.typepad.com/dani_rodriks_weblog/2008/02/slow-down-the-w.html

what do you think? things moving too fast for you?

along the same lines, the number of people using phones is now expected to exceed the number of people not using phones. This means a lot to the digital divide and adds to the increasing feeling that XO might already be outdated? Alas, the Economist (quoting the world bank) seems to think that leapfrogging success a la mobile phone cannot really be replicated in other areas. Actually, come to think of it, its true, non?

Archana made an interesting point in conversation. Cleantech.com (http://media.cleantech.com/2446/fuel-cell-powered-cell-phones-show-progress) reports of hydrogen/ethanol powered mobile phones which could easily overcome the leapfrogging barriers mentioned above.
